Port Washington Generating Station

Port Washington Generating Station
We are building the second of two 545-megawatt, natural-gas-fueled units on the existing Port Washington Power Plant site. The new unit will have two combustion turbine-generators, two heat-recovery steam generators, a steam turbine-generator and related equipment. We Energies will collaborate in the design of the new facilities and will lease and operate the plant when completed.

Project Progress
The first 545-megawatt unit at the Port Washington Generating Station (PWGS) achieved commercial operation July 16, 2005. We continue to move forward on the second unit at Port Washington and expect to complete the project in time for the peak summer season in 2008.

PWGS was constructed on the site of the former coal-fueled Port Washington Power Plant. Groundbreaking for PWGS occurred in July 2003 for the first 545-megawatt (MW), natural gas combined-cycle unit.
